Online File Virus Scanner
The Online File Virus Scanner is a core security component of the MyFileFixer platform. Before attempting to repair or modify any unknown digital asset, it is crucial to ensure that the file is not a malicious payload designed to compromise your system.
Our virus scanner provides an instantaneous, browser-based security check against millions of known malware signatures, ransomware strings, and suspicious heuristic patterns, ensuring that the files you download and process are safe.
Why Scan Before You Open?
Files downloaded from the internet—especially archives like .zip or .rar, and executable files like .exe—are the primary delivery mechanisms for modern malware.
A file might be disguised as a corrupted Word document or a broken Excel spreadsheet. When you attempt to open or "repair" it, the hidden malicious macro or executable payload runs in the background, compromising your operating system. Our scanner intercepts this process, analyzing the binary structure of the file before you open it on your local machine.
How the Scanner Works
The MyFileFixer virus scanning engine utilizes a multi-layered detection approach to maximize security while maintaining absolute user privacy.
1. File Signature Analysis
Every file type has a unique binary structure (a "Magic Number"). Our scanner first verifies the file's structural integrity. If a file is labeled as a .pdf but structurally identifies as an executable .exe file, the scanner instantly flags it as highly suspicious.
2. Cryptographic Hash Matching (MD5 & SHA-256)
Upon upload, our engine calculates the cryptographic hash (SHA-256) of your file. This unique digital fingerprint is then cross-referenced against a global database of known malware, ransomware, and trojans. If the hash matches a known threat, the file is blocked immediately.
3. Heuristic & Static Analysis
For novel or unknown threats, our engine performs static analysis on the file's contents without executing it. It scans for obfuscated scripts, malicious macros (often hidden in Office documents), and suspicious API calls embedded within the file structure.
Privacy First: Ephemeral Scanning
Security tools should not compromise your privacy. The MyFileFixer Virus Scanner is designed with strict data protection protocols:
- No Retention: Files uploaded for scanning are held in temporary memory (RAM) strictly for the duration of the scan.
- Zero Logs: We do not log the contents of your files.
- Auto-Deletion: Once the scan is complete, the file is permanently and irreversibly purged from our scanning nodes.
Supported File Types
Our engine is capable of scanning virtually any file format, including:
- Executables:
.exe,.msi,.bat,.cmd - Archives:
.zip,.rar,.7z,.tar,.gz - Documents:
.pdf,.docx,.xlsx,.pptx(Macro scanning included) - Media:
.mp4,.jpg,.png,.svg(SVG script injection scanning) - Scripts:
.js,.py,.ps1,.vbs
What Happens if a Threat is Detected?
If the scanner detects a malicious payload, it will instantly abort any repair operations and display a Critical Threat Detected warning.
For your safety, the file will be locked, and we will automatically delete the payload from our temporary servers. We highly recommend that you permanently delete the original file from your local hard drive and perform a full system scan using your native antivirus software (e.g., Windows Defender, Malwarebytes).
Integration with File Repair
The Virus Scanner is deeply integrated into the MyFileFixer ecosystem. Before any file is passed to our Advanced AI Cloud Repair tiers, it undergoes a mandatory preliminary scan. This prevents our repair engines from accidentally reconstructing and returning a viable malicious payload.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I scan files larger than 1GB?
For free users, the maximum file size for real-time scanning is capped. However, premium users can scan massive multi-gigabyte archives and databases utilizing our chunked scanning infrastructure.
Is this a replacement for my desktop Antivirus?
No. The MyFileFixer Online Virus Scanner is an on-demand, single-file analysis tool. It does not provide real-time protection, memory scanning, or firewall capabilities. You should always run a dedicated antivirus program on your local machine.
What if the scanner flags a file that I know is safe?
This is known as a "False Positive." Some highly obfuscated legitimate software or complex macros can trigger heuristic alarms. If you are 100% certain the file is safe, you can choose to bypass the warning at your own risk, though we strongly advise against it.
